STARS & Choosing Wisely

So many of you have asked – what do we do now without the Choosing Wisely lists?

While the Choosing Wisely lists of recommendations to address overuse in the US are no longer active, the foundations of the Choosing Wisely campaign remain – Choosing Wisely was grounded in medical professionalism and was created “to help physicians and patients engage in conversations about the overuse of tests and procedures.”

These foundations are more important than ever and continue to be hallmark to the STARS program – we continue to believe that students and trainees, grounded in medical professionalism, can help in “reducing overuse, improving quality and safety, and doing no harm” to patients and families, and can do so with Choosing Wisely’s guiding principles of “shared decision-making by patients and physicians, and evidence-based practice.”

We remain committed to supporting and empowering healthcare professionals and patients, and we are so thankful for the many continued partnerships as we work toward a more affordable and equitable healthcare system.
