Patient Affordability Intern

Jordan Pemberton
M.D. Candidate 2027 | Baylor College of Medicine

Congratulations to Jordan Pemberton, who was selected as the inaugural STARS Patient Affordability Intern!

Jordan Pemberton is an MS3 at Baylor College of Medicine. Born in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and raised in Houston Texas, he is a proud alumnus of the University of Houston Honors College, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Health with a minor in Biology.

During undergrad, Jordan served as an intern for multiple years at the University of Pennsylvania and MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he received awards for his work on metastatic melanoma and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs), respectively.

During his time in medical school, Jordan has developed an interest in improving healthcare and health systems from a macro level, which has led him to his current positions with STARS, as well as the MSS section of the AMA. As an active STARS student, he assists in running the Dean’s Distinction for High-Value Care.

Currently, he serves as the Vice Chair for the AMA’s Medical Student Section (MSS) Committee on Economics and Quality in Medicine (CEQM), as well as the Chair for the local AMA/TMA chapter at his medical school. He is currently waiting to assume the role of chair for what is currently known as CEQM, as the committee transitions to the Committee on Health Economics and Coverage (CHEC) for the 25-26 academic year.

As he continues through his medical training, Jordan plans to continue to seek knowledge and gain expertise on ways to transform the delivery and improve the quality of healthcare in America. Considering his career in medicine, Jordan aims to blend his newfound passions and skillsets with his clinical training in ways that will bolster organizational culture, ensure efficiency, and facilitate the operational excellence of whatever system he finds himself serving within.

*In his role as Patient Affordability Intern, Jordan will be mentored by Costs of Care Director, Dr. Fumiko Chino and Costs of Care Fellow, Dr. Nicole Mott.
